November 1, 2012

BALTIMOREU.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today was joined by American Red Cross Chesapeake Regional Executive Director Frank Miller to tour the Red Cross Superstorm Sandy disaster operations center and meet with workers and volunteers supporting those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The center is headquarters for Maryland and Delaware Red Cross disaster relief activities that have been up and running since October 26.  Two hundred Red Cross workers from around the country have been deployed to the Maryland/Delaware area to provide disaster assistance in the wake of this unique and dangerous storm front.

"The workers and volunteers of the Red Cross are helping Marylanders respond and recover from Superstorm Sandy," Senator Mikulski said. "From the Eastern Shore to Garrett County, the Red Cross is partnering with the government to help provide food and shelter for those impacted most. As Marylanders seek to recover and rebuild, we are all in this together. The Red Cross is truly neighbor helping neighbor. I am grateful for their work."

More than twice a day the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region provides basic needs to disaster victims such as emergency shelter, food, clothing and counseling to Maryland families after disasters thanks to major support from donors to the United Way campaigns in Maryland. The Red Cross is a charitable organization that each day also provides lifesaving blood to area hospitals; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families.
