Senators Mikulski, Landrieu, Collins Introduce Resolution Supporting U.S. Catholic Sisters

WASHINGTONU.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) was joined by Senators Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Susan M. Collins (R-Maine) in introducing a resolution honoring the 222,000 Catholic Sisters who have served in the United States since the country's founding.  

"These women are truly trailblazers," the Senators said in their Dear Colleague letter. "Whether fighting for the displaced and dispossessed or standing up for injustice, the Catholic Sisters have never wavered in their commitment to justice, fairness and equality for all."  

In addition to Senators Mikulski, Landrieu and Collins, the resolution is cosponsored by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.)¸and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.).

The resolution recognizes the Catholic Sisters fulfillment of their vital missions to teach our children, care for the sick, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, lead major institutions, demand corporate responsibility, and fight for policies that promote human dignity.  

"These are unsung heroes of our nation and the world. Their selflessness and long-lasting call to service is an example to us all," remarked Senators Mikulski, Landrieu, and Collins.
