Budget and Spending

Our nation’s policy of out of control tax and spending must come to an end.  We must make drastic, across-the-board cuts to our federal spending levels.  We are headed to an unsustainable level of debt and unless we start reducing it, our children and grandchildren will be paying for our lavish spending.  I understand the magnitude of this situation and do not want to see the United States default on its obligations, but the consequences of inaction are too great to ignore.  The status quo must change.

Due to the nation’s multi-trillion dollar deficit, I will not be making requests for specific appropriations projects, usually referred to as “earmarks”.   With a massive budget gap year after year, I do not believe it is appropriate for Members of Congress to seek taxpayer funding for wasteful pet projects back in their districts.  Furthermore, I supported cutting the budget for congressional offices by five percent.  I believe that in the current economic turmoil, that if Americans have to make cuts to their expenditures then Washington should as well.
