‘We have a sacred trust with those who have risked their lives so that we may live in freedom. Part of that trust is making sure we provide them with the services and support they have earned and deserved,’ Senator says

WASHINGTONU.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today announced that she has joined the bipartisan Senate Military Family Caucus, which seeks to address the unique and growing challenges faced by veterans and military families. She also launched a resources web page dedicated to helping Maryland's more than 475,000 veterans and military families learn about and access the services they have earned and deserve. Both announcements come as the Senator celebrates Veterans Day and marks National Military Family Month, which is November.

"Each and every member of our military is part of the American family," Senator Mikulski said. "Their service is a tremendous sacrifice and comes with great risk. As a member of the Senate Military Family Caucus, I will never stop fighting for the men and women in uniform who have fought for our freedom."

The bipartisan Senate Military Family Caucus currently has 37 members, including Senator Mikulski, and is co-chaired by Senators Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Richard Burr (R-N.C.). The Caucus aims to substantively address issues faced by military families including employment, health care, education and childcare. By bringing together military families with Members of Congress, staff and organizations working on behalf of military families, the Members of the Caucus work to improve programs and services for military families.

Senator Mikulski also launched a dedicated web page of resources to help Maryland's veterans and military families better learn about and access federal, state and local services available for issues including education, health care, benefits, housing, and job assistance. It will also help connect them with support organizations to help veterans recover from any sustained injuries and adjust to civilian life.

"We have a sacred trust with those who have risked their lives so that we may live in freedom. Part of that sacred trust is making sure we provide them with the services and support they have earned and deserve," Senator Mikulski said. "Finding and understanding these services is not always an easy task. That's why I created a special web page that's a one-stop shop for our veterans, troops and their families to find jobs, health care, benefits and other resources."

Senator Mikulski has been a strong advocate for veterans and military families. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, she has fought to put money in the federal checkbook to improve the veteran's health care system and ensure that wounded and disabled warriors get the care and benefits they need. She is also fighting for better care for veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) by working to better coordinate prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of patients through the Defense Department and the VA as well as championing the establishment of Centers of Excellence to better address PTSD and TBI to meet the needs of returning veterans.
