The 19th District of Texas

Welcome to God's Country.

The 19th Congressional District of Texas stretches across 27 counties, including the cities of Abilene, Big Spring, and Lubbock, and covers over 29,000 square miles from the New Mexico border through the South Plains and across West Texas and the Big Country.

Whether you like to visit historical sites, shop, dine or just relax; Texas’ 19th District has it all. The 19th Congressional District is as diverse as it is large. It has a booming agriculture business, which includes cotton, peanuts, grains, beef and dairy cattle. Additionally, the 19th District is on the cutting edge of domestic energy production. Not only is there significant oil and gas production, but the 19th District is also home to the largest wind farm in the world and produces more wind energy than the entire state of California.

Lubbock, known as the “world’s largest cotton patch,” is the largest of the population centers in the District. It has acquired the moniker of the “Hub City” for being the economic and cultural hub of the South Plains of Texas. Lubbock is where Buddy Holly got his first start on a radio show on 580 AM KRFE, which is still in operation today.

Abilene is home to Dyess Air Force Base, the host of the 7th Bomb Wing and the premier operational B-1B Lancer unit in the U.S. Air Force.  In Big Spring, you can find the Hangar 25 Air Museum, located at what used to be the Big Spring Bombardier School and the former Webb Air Force Base, that has preserved the history and memory of all the pilots who were trained there and who fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. We are proud of our troops and the support they enjoy in Texas and are thankful for their selfless dedication to protect the American people and our way of life.

Many outstanding universities have made their home in West Texas. In Lubbock, two major universities are Texas Tech University and Lubbock Christian University.  Big Spring is home to Howard College and the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf. In the Abilene area, you can find Abilene Christian University, Hardin Simmons University and McMurry University.

The 19th District of Texas is exciting, diverse, and home to some of the friendliest people in America. You can find vibrant city life, world-class institutions for education, small towns with a big welcome, and limitless outdoor activity.
