National Day of Prayer

“Today our nation is at peace and is enjoying prosperity; but our need for prayer is even greater…We are all God’s handiwork, and it is appropriate for us as individuals and as a nation to call on Him in prayer.”

-Ronald Reagan
National Day of Prayer Proclamation
January 29, 1985

Today, May 3rd, is the National Day of Prayer. Prayer has been a part of American culture for longer than we have been a nation. George Washington is believed to have fallen on his knees at Valley Forge to pray for his troops and his country. President Reagan strongly believed in the power of prayer and religion. I share that belief and continually pray for our country, our leaders, our troops, and the citizens of Texas that I so proudly represent.

Being aware of God’s work every day through prayer is part of why I believe we are so blessed in America. We face difficult times, but prayer has a role to play in how we address our challenges. Whether we pray to give thanks for the abundant blessings in our lives, to reflect on the military men and women who have sacrificed for our liberty, or to simply enjoy peace in the presence of God, active prayer has the ability to move mountains. Today, I encourage all Americans to be silent for a few moments, thank the Lord for our blessings of freedom and democracy, and pray for the continued strength of our nation.
