"Trying terrorists in civilian court is one of the most dangerous and irresponsible decisions the Administration could make with regard to our national security." -US Rep. Sue Myrick

(Washington, DC) – US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) has released the following statement after the Obama Administration announced plans to bring terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to New York City to be tried in civilian court:

“Trying terrorists in civilian court is one of the most dangerous and irresponsible decisions the Administration could make with regard to national security. The stated goal of radical Islamist terrorists is to overthrow our government, throw out our Constitution, and rule us by Shariah Law. These are not people who should be given the same Constitutional rights as our citizens.  We have laws in place to try these terrorists pursuant to military law, and we should do so.  Trying prisoners of war in the US legal system is against our national interest and against our country’s respect for the laws of war.”

Rep. Myrick has also introduced HR 829, which would prohibit the use of funds to transfer or house individuals detained at Guantanamo Bay at facilities in North Carolina.
