Myrick, Wolf Urge President To Prevent Guantanamo Detainees From Being Released To Afghanistan

(WASHINGTON, DC) – US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) and Representative Frank Wolf (VA-10) today sent a letter to President Obama urging that Guantanamo detainees no longer be released to Afghanistan following reports that a detainee released in December already has returned to terrorist activities.  The Administration in January halted sending detainees back to Yemen after it became clear that the failed Christmas Day bomber developed links to al Qaeda there.

“We must learn from our past mistakes and prevent additional detainees from rejoining the fight against our armed forces and aid workers in Afghanistan,” Myrick and Wolf wrote in the letter.

Reps. Myrick and Wolf also asked that the Administration release an updated, unclassified version of the recidivism rate of Guantanamo Bay detainees.  It is been reported that is it now over 20 percent.
