Myrick Votes For A Responsible Budget Solution FY 2013 Budget Resolution includes spending cuts, tax reforms

(Washington, DC)– Today, US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) voted to save trillions in taxpayer dollars by voting for The Path to Prosperity FY 2013 budget resolution introduced by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan.

“The budget resolution passed by the House today is a responsible way forward,” Rep. Myrick said. “Spending less, reducing deficits, paying down the debt, reforming the tax code – this budget has the solutions we need in order to get our fiscal house in order”.

Key provisions of The Path for Prosperity FY 2013 Budget Resolution include:

  • $5 trillion in spending cuts relative to the President’s budget request
  • $3 trillion in deficit reduction relative to the President’s budget request
  • Lowers individual and corporate tax rates and closes special interest loopholes to spur economic growth, create jobs and make American companies competitive in the global market
  • Repeals the health care law, and places health care choices in the hands of patients and doctors, not bureaucrats
  • Promotes an ‘all-of-the-above’ energy policy to lower costs and reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil
  • Prevents the indiscriminate defense cuts of the Budget Control Act sequestration to protect our national security and ensure that troops and their families don’t pay the price for Washington’s fiscal irresponsibility
  • Reduces debt as share of GDP and puts the budget on a path to balance.

Rep. Myrick also voted in favor of theRepublican Study Committee’s FY 2013 budget proposal, which would cut discretionary spending by $931 billion, and balance the federal budget by 2017. It failed by a vote of 136-285.
