Myrick Urges President, Treasury Department to Designate China as a Currency Manipulator

(WASHINGTON, DC) – US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) has written a letter to President Barack Obama, and signed a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, urging that China be designated as a currency manipulator.

On April 15, the Treasury Department is set to release its semi-annual report, in which Rep. Myrick would like to see this designation placed on China.

“Perhaps the greatest challenge facing U.S. exporters is China’s currency manipulation,” Rep. Myrick wrote in her letter to President Obama on Feb. 16, 2010.  “For years, the Chinese government has systematically devalued the yuan, putting American manufacturers at a disadvantage”.

Last week, Rep. Myrick joined with 129 of her colleagues in the House in sending a letter to Secretary Geithner asking for this designation.  She has also sponsored and/or co-sponsored legislation regarding China’s currency manipulation during the 108th, 109th and 110th Congresses.
