(Washington, DC)–US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) voted today in favor of HR 3630, The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act.

In a statement following today’s vote, Rep. Myrick said:

“The Senate has failed to act. The Super Committee failed to act. This bill, which includes provisions with bipartisan support, does what the Senate and Super Committee were unable to accomplish – agree on a plan that cuts spending and enacts reforms that will keep taxes low for American families and spur economic growth and job creation. Most importantly, the bill passed today is offset by necessary spending cuts and doesn’t punt the bill to our kids and grandkids. This bill delivers on what our country needs now – jobs”.

The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act will:

-          Provide a one year extension of the payroll tax holiday, which allows American families and taxpayers to keep more of their hard-earned paychecks each month;  

-          Reform Unemployment Insurance by requiring all federal and state benefit recipients to actively search for work, enroll in a GED program, or participate in reemployment services; also allows states to drug test applicants if they so choose;

-          Require the Administration to issue a ruling on the Keystone XL Pipeline within 60 days, a project that will create thousands of much-needed American jobs;

-          Offer a long-term ‘doc fix’, which prevents a 27% cut in Medicare reimbursements to physicians and preserves access to Medicare coverage for senior citizens;

-          Reduce waste in government spending by closing the “strip club” loophole for welfare benefits and requiring a social security number in order to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit.

The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act passed in the House with bipartisan support by a vote of 234-193.
