Myrick Statement on Health Benefits for Congressional Staff

(WASHINGTON, DC) – US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) has released the following statement after learning that certain Congressional staff in leadership and committee offices may be exempt from the regulations established by HR 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

“To think that those responsible for writing this bill should be exempt from the massive regulations they’re placing on the American people is absurd.  If it’s good enough for the American people, it should be good enough for those who represent them.  Clearly those in charge don’t think that’s the case”.

In July, Rep. Myrick, along with Reps. Roy Blunt, Phil Gingrey and Lee Terry, introduced an amendment to the health care bill to automatically enroll the President, Vice President and all Members of Congress into the health care exchange created by the bill. It was ruled not germane by the Majority.
