Myrick Signs Letter to President Calling for End of ACORN Federal Funding

(WASHINGTON, DC) – US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) has signed a letter drafted by House Minority Leader John Boehner to President Obama asking him to disclose and terminate all taxpayer funding of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also known as ACORN.

“This is a matter of common sense and respect for taxpayer dollars,” the letter reads.  “Last year, millions of Americans were outraged to learn their tax dollars were being used to subsidize an organization linked to multiple instances of voter registration fraud and other illicit activity.”

Rep. Myrick today also signed on as a co-sponsor of the Defund ACORN Act to be introduced by Leader Boehner. The bill would end all taxpayer funding of the organization. The Senate voted 83-7 on Monday to deny ACORN housing and community grants through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“There is no need for taxpayer dollars to further fund an organization that has repeatedly shown a disregard for the law – especially in light of the recent allegations against the group,” said Rep. Myrick. “I hope that the President will make the right decision on behalf of American taxpayers and end all federal funding to ACORN”.
