Myrick Highlights Cost of EPA Overregulation

(Washington, DC) –Today, US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09), Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, presided over opening statements as the Committee prepares to markup a series bills aimed at lessening the harmful effects of pending regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The bills that will be considered by the Committee are H.R. 2250, the EPA Regulatory Relief Act; H.R. 2681, the Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act; and H.R. 2937, the Pipeline Infrastructure and Community Protection Act.

The EPA Regulatory Relief Act and Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act will offer certainty to small businesses so that they are able to invest in expansion and job creation instead of complying with burdensome and costly EPA regulations.

During her opening statement, Rep. Myrick highlighted how these bills will help businesses in her district.

“These regulations are not only a burden to manufacturers, but also commercial facilities, hospitals, schools and hotels,” Rep. Myrick said. “At a time when our unemployment rate is over nine percent and manufacturers are operating in a global economy, it makes perfect sense that we would give the EPA the time to re-propose new, workable rules for boilers and incinerators. Given the difficulty many businesses have when trying to access credit, it also makes sense to give those affected additional time to comply.”
