Myrick Co-sponsors Bills To Revoke Citizenship of Terrorists

(Washington, DC) - US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) today released a video announcing her co-sponsorship of two bills and one resolution that would add to federal law the revocation of the citizenship of nationals who engage in terrorism against the United States.  Currently, Federal law provides that a US national "shall lose his nationality by voluntarily entering, or serving in, the armed forces of a foreign state if such armed forces are engaged in hostilities against the United States."

The Terrorist Expatriation Act (HR 5237) would revoke the US citizenship of any national who has provided material support or resources to a Foreign Terrorist Organization.  The Revoking Citizenship for Terrorist Act (HR 5166) would revoke citizenship of those individuals who are identified as terrorists.

Additionally, Rep. Myrick has signed on as a co-sponsor of H.Res. 1288, urging the State and Homeland Security Departments to issue a Certificate of Loss of Citizenship to Anwar al-Awlaki - a United States citizen who was an adviser to the Fort Hood shooter, the Christmas Day bomber, and the attempted Time Square bomber.
