Continuing Resolution Information - April 7, 2011

Below is a message from Rep. Myrick regarding the Continuing Resolution:

"Earlier today, the House of Representatives passed a bill that will continue to fund the military through the end of the year, and cut federal spending by $12 billion over the next week.  I supported this measure because it would prevent a government shutdown, and give Congressional leadership additional time to reach a sensible compromise to fund the government through the end of the current fiscal year.  This bill has been sent to the Senate, where I hope it will find swift passage.

Unfortunately, the White House has threatened a veto of this bill should it arrive on the President’s desk.  In the policy announcement, the White House said: “It is critical that the Congress send a final bill to the President’s desk that provides certainty to our men and women in military uniform, their families, small businesses, homeowners, taxpayers, and all Americans.”  The House has already passed a bill that does this – HR 1 – which was sent to the Senate 47 days ago.

We have a responsibility to serve our constituents, making sure that we act in their best interest to restore fiscal responsibility yet keep the government operational to ensure the safety and security of our country.  That is what the bill just passed in the House does.  I am certain that the American people would agree that funding our men and women in uniform is one of the most important things that we can do, and I hope that if the Senate pass this bill, the President will sign it into law".
