Services: Home Loan Modifications

Constituents in foreclosure or at risk of foreclosure sometimes contact my office seeking help with home loan modifications. My staff can help find resources to assist you, like foreclosure specialists, in the community.

U.S. Departments of Housing and Urban Development & Treasury

The Treasury Department and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have created the "Making Home Affordable” website to assist at risk homeowners with modification applications, questions about the program and to help homeowners find resources in the community. For your convenience, I have provided some direct links to the Making Home Affordable site:

In-State Help for Connecticut Residents

Click here for a list of HUD approved housing counseling agencies in Connecticut

My office often works with several HUD approved foreclosure agencies in the area. Housing Development Fund, located in Bridgeport, holds monthly meetings to discuss foreclosure prevention. You may call HDF to reserve a seat at the next clinic by calling 203-339-9035, extension 10.

Low-income homeowners may qualify for assistance from CT Network for Legal Aid.  The information on their site about foreclosure may be useful to help answer questions. (note: the CT Network for Legal Aid is not a governmental organization, although it is a non-profit that helps Connecticut residents.  I'm providing these links only as a potential resource for constituents in need).

Fannie Mae

Fannie Mae produced an interactive video simulation to help you learn more about the options for those facing foreclosure.  As you proceed through the video, you make make real time decisions and are given those results.  While this may not reflect your circumstance precisely, it might be a useful and informative exercise. Fannie Mae also maintains a website called "Know Your Options" with a wide range of resources, guides and answers for homeowners facing foreclosure.  (Fannie Mae is a "government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) chartered by Congress with a mission to provide liquidity, stability and affordability to the U.S. housing and mortgage markets.")

The Veterans Administration

Veterans may qualify for assistance through the Veterans Administration (VA).  If you are a veteran, you can find more information at the VA's Loan Guaranty program website.  The VA also published a Foreclosure Avoidance Fact Sheet as a starting point for veterans with questions about loan modifications or foreclosure.

As with any other issue, if you believe you need my help to resolve a problem or get a question answered, please call either of my Connecticut offices at the numbers below.
