  1. As a follow up to my op-ed and teletown hall this week on the fiscal cliff, here is a chart that illustrates why spending is our problem.

  2. In Colorado we have seen how fossil fuels and clean tech have created tens of thousands of high paying jobs. I have always believed that our nation's energy sector can drive our economic recovery. That is why we need to provide a stable regulatory environment so these companies can continue to hire and plan for the future.
  3. Thanks to the thousands of people who joined me last night for the live teletown hall. We discussed the fiscal cliff and what will happen at the end of the year if Congress does not act to prevent taxes from increasing. I highlighted that it is out of control spending that has gotten us into this mess. I look forward to more teletown halls in the future.

  6. President Obama’s tax increase would generate enough revenue to run the federal government for about eight days. Just eight days! Here is my take on what we can do to avoid the fiscal cliff - it involves growing the economy, reforming mandatory spending, and not raising taxes.
  7. Energy development creates jobs - this morning I was at the opening of a business that has moved the accounting, administration and fleet management functions of its North Dakota energy development to Sterling. They plan to bring more jobs to Sterling as they develop into Oklahoma as well.
  8. Our office has been looking into the activities of the government funded broadband provider EAGLE-Net, which has been overbuilding existing networks. Yesterday, we were informed that EAGLE-Net has had its $100 million stimulus grant suspended for not complying with the rules. I sat down with 9News to discuss the mismanagement and waste of taxpayer money.
  9. This afternoon, I received my subcommittee assignments for the 113th Congress. I will be staying on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and serving on the following Subcommittees:

    - Subcommittee on Communications and Technology
    - Subcommittee on Energy and Power
    - Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations
  10. Earlier this year, I held a series of ag forums around my district, and we heard from countless farmers who said a death tax increase will make it impossible to pass their farms down to their children. If something isn’t done, this is going to destroy family businesses in rural America.
  11. The goal of our new energy efficient caucus is going to be pushing for policies that reduce energy costs, cut pollution, and create jobs. There is nearly 3 billion square feet of building space that is owned and operated by the federal government, and by making government buildings more energy efficient we can save taxpayer dollars and give a boost the construction and energy sectors of our economy.

  13. This year, the national Christmas tree is from Colorado. The lighting ceremony is tonight. I've attached a picture of Congressman Doug Lamborn and his constituent, Ryan Shuster, who is the official "tree lighter."

  14. Today I joined with Members of the Colorado Congressional delegation in sending letters to the President and House and Senate Appropriations Committees in support of emergency disaster relief in the wake of this summer’s wildfires.
  15. There seems to be disagreement among Washington Democrats regarding the severity of the "fiscal cliff." Some think we should take the country over the cliff and others deny it even exists.

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says the "fiscal cliff" could trigger another recession, and I agree. We need to reach a consensus and cooperate in order to solve our fiscal problems.
  16. Lots to be thankful for today. I am thankful for my amazing family and friends and our troops serving over seas. Enjoy this special holiday!
