Keystone Decision Prevents Job Creation

Today, the Obama Administration announced it was rejecting the permit application for the Keystone XL pipeline on the grounds that it is “not in the national interest.” 

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, issued the following statement about the Administration’s decision:

“America needs jobs and greater energy security. The Keystone Pipeline project would deliver both. Unfortunately, it appears the Obama Administration does not think this is in the national interest.

“This is a blow for America’s middle class. This massive energy project could create 20,000 real jobs for Americans and spur more than $20 billion in new spending for our struggling economy.

"The president had an opportunity to bring American jobs and energy independence, and he rejected it. It is amazing that President Obama is willing to disregard jobs and energy security that our country desperately needs in order to appease radical environmentalists. There is no excuse.”– Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

The Keystone XL pipeline is a 1700 mile, $7 billion non tax-payer funded pipeline which would deliver up to 800,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada to refineries in the United States. Last August, the State Department issued a complimentary Environmental Impact Statement on the project. 

It has been more than three years since the application was filed to build the Keystone XL pipeline.
