Lamborn Statement on July 2012 Unemployment Numbers

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the economy added 163,000 jobs in July. The unemployment rate ticked up to 8.3 percent. The household survey showed that 852,000 "discouraged workers" were not counted in the labor force, because they did not look for a job in the last four weeks.

The so called "underemployment rate" rose to 15%, its highest level since January. That includes people who are unemployed, as well as those who are working part-time because they can't find full-time jobs, and those that have looked for a job sometime in the last year.

“The jobs report continues to tell a very troubling story for American families. The economy is not improving for the 12.8 million out-of-work Americans and the millions more who are working part-time or who have given up altogether.

“The real story of this economy is found in the homes of families struggling to make a mortgage payment. It is found in the homes where college graduates are living in their parent’s basement because they can’t find a job. It is found in the homes relying on welfare and food stamps.

“We need to change the story in America. We need a change in leadership at the White House. We need someone in the White House who can do more than just feel bad for America’s struggling families. We need someone in the White House who can actually make things better.” – Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
