Lamborn Calls on Governor to Appeal Court's Decision on Colorado Day of Prayer

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) today sent a letter to Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper urging the Governor to appeal a recent decison of the Colorado Court of Appeals striking down the Colorado Day of Prayer. Lamborn is asking the Governor to appeal to the Colorado Supreme Court.

In 2010, a Denver District Court dismissed the case brought by a small group of Wisconsin-based atheists. Last week, the Colorado Court of Appeals sided with the atheists in stating that the Colorado Day of Prayer violates the Constitution's provision for religious liberty.

From Congressman Lamborn's letter to Governor Hickenlooper:

The decision of the Colorado Court of Appeals declaring your proclamation unconstitutional is stunning in light of the overwhelming importance of prayer to Coloradans and all Americans, the extent to which prayer is deeply engrained in the history of our nation, and the text of the Constitution itself.

Congressman Lamborn, a member of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, has asked the caucus to pray that the court affirms Colorado's right to celebrate a state day of prayer.
