Statement from Rep. McCarthy on Palestinian Authority

GARDEN CITY, NY (Oct. 7, 2011) -- Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY4) issued the following statement today:

“As a supporter of direct, bilateral discussions that lead to a mutually-agreed-upon two-state solution, last month I denounced the Palestinian Authority’s attempt to unilaterally achieve statehood through the United Nations.   Recently, the broad coalition of nations represented by the Quartet on the Middle East formally also called for direct bilateral talks, but sadly the Palestinian Authority has rejected that effort, making a lasting mutual peace even more distant.  If the Palestinian Authority wants to become a recognized state then it must cooperate with the states it wishes to be recognized by.”
