Remembering September 11

THOUGHTS FROM CAPITOL HILL | September 7, 2011
CONTACT: Jamie Hanks | (202) 225-8490

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As our nation approaches a decade since the fateful day of September 11, 2001, we remember the horrific events that left an indelible mark on this country and pay tribute to those we lost to the tragic attacks on American soil.

Heroes and angels were made on that day. Our unyielding appreciation to the courageous first responders and to our brave men and women in uniform is just as strong and fervent 10 years later. By placing the lives of others ahead of their own, more unimaginable tragedies were prevented, and their actions continue to shield us from harm.

Though the years have passed, the pain from that September remains. Sheer acts of terror claimed many innocent lives in New York City, at the Pentagon, and on Flight 93, and we know the victims’ families and friends still grieve.

Our fortitude as a nation was tested, yet we refused to be beaten. Our country’s bravery, determination and vigor are hallmarks of the September 11 aftermath and are testaments to the strength of the American spirit.

Going forward, we will continue to have unwavering faith in the unique ideals and principles that make our country stand above the rest. Moreover, our vigilance against those who seek to harm the United States must never cease.

On this 10th anniversary, we recognize the compassion of our fellow citizens, admire the valor of our troops, and are deeply thankful for the resilience of the United States of America. By standing together, this nation steadfastly remains the greatest source of hope and liberty.

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
