Metro News: A Serious Misstatement"

"He's made a mistake."

First District Congressman David McKinley says Missouri Representative Todd Akin created a lot of problems for himself and for his run for U.S. Senate with his recent comments about abortions tied to sexual assaults.

"I am very, very disappointed," Congressman McKinley said of Akin on Wednesday's MetroNews Talkline. "I've known him now for the past year and a half and that's not the way he comes across."

Congressman Akin, a candidate for U.S. Senate in Missouri, has lost a lot of support from his fellow Republicans since he said the following when asked about abortions for pregnant rape victims:

"It seems to me first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let's assume that maybe that didn't work or something, you know I think there should be some punishment but the punishment ought to be the rapist and not attacking the life of the child."
