District Matters

Visited a very enthusiastic group of Middle School students at Juan Crespi in San Pablo on Friday. They had some great(and very thoughtful) questions about Congress put together. We talked about everything from why I decided to run for Congress to whether students should be take foreign language classes. Thanks to the staff, teachers and administration at Juan Crispi for your hospitality. And special thanks to WCCUSD Superintendent Dr. Bruce Harter for taking the time to be part of this great visit.

REPS. MIKE THOMPSON, DORIS MATSUI, GEORGE MILLER, ANNA ESHOO ISSUE STATEMENT ON MEETING WITH FHFA ACTING DIRECTOR DEMARCO

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Reps. Mike Thompson (CA-1), Doris Matsui (CA-5), George Miller (CA-7) and Anna G. Eshoo (CA-14) today issued the following statements after meeting with the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Acting Director Edward DeMarco:

I recently sat down with some of the reporters from Richmond Confidential to talk about several issues that are important to Richmond and San Pablo.

From Congressman Miller sees Richmond promises:

In what the NY Times is calling an “ambitious effort yet to jump-start a national market for energy upgrades that many people believe could eventually be worth billions,” communities throughout the United States could start to see the positive outcomes from energy conscious housing retrofits. This effort would not just help clean our environment—it could create thousands of new green jobs in the construction industry.

Thanks to everyone who came down to the Town Hall Meeting at the San Pablo Senior Center earlier today. We had a great discussion about the need for Congress to focus on creating jobs and some of the other items that impact the people in our community - including Medicare and Social Security. Special thanks to the San Pablo Senior Center for use of their facilities and for the Richmond High Students who videotaped the meeting – the video will be posted soon.

Thank you to the first responders, the veterans and everyone in our community who came together this weekend as we commemorated the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It was a day we must never forget.

Ten years ago, we came together despite our differences to face a great challenge. Our spirit, which the terrorists sought to crush along with our buildings, was strengthened through adversity. America is always at its best when we work together to solve problems.

Last Saturday I stopped by the 4th Annual Boys & Girls State Recognition dinner in Martinez to meet this year's participants.

Last Saturday I enjoyed attending the 3rd Annual Contra Costa Mayors' Healthy Cook Off Challenge at the Grove Park in Clayton.
