Hartzler unveils bill to give communities greater control over shoreline management

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has unveiled legislation to help bring decisions over lake management to the people and away from unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. Her bill gives states the chance to opt out of regulation by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) except for power generation supervision.

Hartzler statement on FERC's approval of a revised boundary for Lake of the Ozarks

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has released the following statement in response to FERC’s approval of a revised boundary for the Osage Hydroelectric project at Lake of the Ozarks: “I am pleased that today’s approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) of a revised Osage Hydroelectric project boundary for Lake of the Ozarks protects the homes of many citizens living close to the shoreline. This is a victory for common sense and the Constitutional right to ownership of property. While FERC’s decision is positive, some property rights issues at the Lake remain and I will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the rights of Lake-area property owners are not being trampled on.” Congresswoman Hartzler, who represents citizens of the Lake of the Ozarks area, has been an outspoken opponent of FERC’s initial ruling that would have resulted in the destruction of thousands of homes and other structures. She introduced legislation, co-sponsored by all members of Missouri’s Congressional delegation, to restrict the ability of FERC to trample on the rights of property owners.

Hartzler issues statement on U.S. Supreme Court ruling in property rights case

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has issued the following statement applauding the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in a property rights case in Idaho: “As a staunch supporter of private property rights I applaud today’s unanimous U.S. Supreme Court ruling in favor of individual property rights. The Environmental Protection Agency had prevented an Idaho couple from building a home on their own land because that area contains wetlands, and then told the couple they could not challenge the decision in court. Today’s opinioon allows the couple to have their day in court to challenge the EPA bureaucrats’ decision. As we recently witnessed with overreach by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) at Lake of the Ozarks, federal bureaucrats are becoming more and more brazen in attacking Americans’ private property rights. This must be stopped. This ruling should serve to put overreaching federal agencies on notice that they are not beyond the reach of America’s laws.”

Congresswoman Hartzler's statement on Ameren's revised Boundary Plan for Lake of the Ozarks

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has issued the following statement in response to Ameren’s filing of its amended Boundary Plan for Lake of the Ozarks: “I am pleased to learn that Ameren’s revised Project Boundary Plan for Lake of the Ozarks will take 1,500 homes out of the federally regulated boundary along the shoreline of the Lake, meaning these homes would not be in jeopardy of being torn down. I am also glad that Ameren has taken into account some citizens’ comments in putting together its amended proposal to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). There are, however, still concerns expressed by Lake area homeowners. I want to make sure these concerns are adequately addressed and will continue to look at possible legislative options to protect property rights of area homeowners.”

Congresswoman Hartzler's statement in response to Ameren's new project boundary proposal for Lake of the Ozarks

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler has released the following statement in response to Ameren’s proposal to redraw its Lake of the Ozarks project boundary: “Ameren’s proposal to redraw its Lake of the Ozarks project boundary to the 662-foot contour appears to be a good faith effort on the part of the company to protect the property rights of homeowners in jeopardy of having their homes torn down. It is a good start to addressing this complex issue. Ameren’s proposal includes two public workshops and a 30-day comment period before the plan is submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). I encourage Lake-area citizens to have their voices heard and to have their comments taken into account. In the interim, I will continue to explore legislative options to ensure Lake of the Ozarks property rights are protected for years to come.”

Hartzler: FERC's backtrack on Lake of the Ozarks order a positive first step; vows to continue to fight for homeowners

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4), sponsor of legislation to stop the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from ordering the destruction of more than a thousand homes at Lake of the Ozarks, welcomes today’s FERC decision that appears to back off from some of its earlier mandates. But she considers this only a first step in securing the rights of property owners at the Lake.
