  1. Yesterday, I accepted, for the second time, the "Friend of the Farm Bureau Award" from Kansas Farm Bureau President Steve Baccus.

I’m honored to accept this award and appreciate the friendship and relationship between farmers and ranchers ...
in the second district. Many of the issues we discuss in Washington affect those back on the farm, and I am proud to do my part to help them continue to grow the most abundant and safest food supply in the world.

  2. I am frustrated by the Federal Reserve’s announcement to continue the policy of quantitative easing (QE) today.

The first three rounds of QE were not able to move the unemployment rate below 8 percent and it is unlikely that further QE will have a substantial impact either.

Monetary policy is not holding the economy back, it is the president’s constant threats of tax increases, over burdensome regulations, and persistent business uncertainty that are stifling job creation.
  3. We want to contribute to a better future for our families, friends, and other hardworking Americans.

And, today, we have a tremendous opportunity to put this country on the right path, by tackling the real problem behind our fiscal mess—this nation’s out-of-control spending habits.

I am pleased to see the Department of Defense (DOD) recognize our brave service men, women and their families deserve quality education facilities. They sacrifice every day for this country, and we want them to be assured they will be taken care of at home.

  15. The plan presented today by House Republicans would raise $800 billion in revenue over the next 10 years without raising tax rates, and offers a balanced, bipartisan approach that addresses the real problem our country faces—one that the president is ignoring—Washington’s runaway spending on mandatory programs like Medicare.

  22. Republicans have always been open to more revenue through tax reform, and we are ready and willing to negotiate.

The President wanting nearly $5 in tax increases for every $1 of spending cuts, however, is not a "balanced approach".
