U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita today applauded the decision by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to issue a visa to Frankfort High School senior Elizabeth Olivas. This morning, Rokita and U.S. Rep. Mike Pence sent letters to the U.S. Consulate in Mexico City in support of Olivas’ request for an expedited waiver that would allow her to return to the United States in time for her school’s commencement ceremony on Saturday.

Rokita Comments on Obama Administration’s Reversal on Youth Farming Regulations

Todd Rokita (IN-4) today issued the following statement after the Obama administration announced that it would withdraw proposed Department of Labor regulations that would have restricted that ability of children younger than 16 to work on farms. Rokita and fellow House members had previously called on Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to reverse the proposed rules because of the harm the rules would cause to Hoosier farmers.

Last Wednesday, Representative Rokita introduced the Rewarding Achievement and Incentivizing Successful Employees (RAISE) Act, H.R. 4385. The RAISE Act would amend the National Labor Relations Act to reform the collective bargaining process and allow employers to give merit-based bonuses, raises, or other increases to individual employees above the levels set by future union contracts. The bill has gained national coverage and has so far drawn 30 cosponsors in the House.
