Increasing the Minimum Wage

Congressman Donnelly has long believed that a decent job with a living wage is the foundation upon which our families are built. Good jobs and fair wages make it possible to feed our families, educate our children, and retire in dignity. For this reason, he was a lead co-sponsor of legislation passed into law to increase the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour, benefiting nearly 13 million working Americans.

Strengthening Worker Protections against Pay Discrimination

Congressman Donnelly has voted to strengthen worker protections against pay discrimination. In 2009, He voted for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, now law, which helps female workers challenge discriminatory pay. He also voted for the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would ban workplace policies that prohibit employees from disclosing their wages with each other and also prohibit gender-based pay discrepancies. The Paycheck Fairness Act passed the House in 2009 but not the Senate.

Supporting Collective Bargaining

Equally as important, Congressman Donnelly is a strong believer that it is the right of every worker to organize and bargain collectively for fair pay, benefits, and appropriate working conditions.
