Long Welcomes Springfield Native Reverend LeMon to Congress

WASHINGTON, DC-Today, U.S. Congressman Billy Long welcomed Reverend Doctor Cal LeMon to the United States House of Representatives to deliver the opening prayer for today’s legislative session.  The reverend, sponsored by the Congressman, gave a prayer that encouraged Members of Congress to find common ground.

“My faith always informs me that when I cannot control how people view me or my positions, God still retains the power to change perceptions and supply creative answers for both of us,” said Reverend LeMon.  “My prayer during the opening of the House of Representatives was a crystalline call for our country that regularly drops God’s name, to also drop to its knees, to hear a new voice.”

Reverend LeMon, his wife Dr. Kathy LeMon, Speaker Boehner, Congressman Long, and House Chaplain Father Patrick Conroy.

Reverend LeMon, an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God, also serves as an elder at First & Calvary Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Missouri, where he regularly preaches and teaches in their historic house of worship.  He was in Washington, D.C. for the National Day of Prayer Breakfast, also attended by Congressman Long.

“Like many members of the clergy, the Reverend Cal LeMon is an important voice in his community,” said Long.  “He has been a tremendous spiritual influence on my family and I am honored to welcome him to Congress.”

Reverend LeMon is the President of Executive Enrichment, Inc., a corporate education and consulting firm, assisting organizations to become more productive through effective leadership.  He also is a writer and regularly contributes to Society for Human Resource Management Magazine, Employment Relations Today, and has written for the Opinion Page of USA TODAY.
