Committee Assignments

Committee on Agriculture - The responsibilities and goals of the House Committee on Agriculture are as diverse as the needs of American agriculture.  We face issues as varied as renewable energy, rural development, nutrition, crop insurance, conservation, international trade, futures market regulation, animal and plant health, agricultural research and development, bioterrorism, forestry and many others.

Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry  – Jurisdiction includes soil, water, and resource conservation, small watershed program, energy and biobased energy production, rural electrification, forestry in general and forest reserves other than those created from the public domain.

Subcommittee on Nutrition and Horticulture – Jurisdiction includes food stamps, nutrition and consumer programs, fruits and vegetables, honey and bees, marketing and promotion orders, plant pesticides, quarantine, adulteration of seeds and insect pests, and organic agriculture.

 

Committee on Natural Resources - this Committee exercises responsibility over matters that enrich America and all Americans – from the natural and historic heritage of our National Parks and forests to the majesty of our oceans and wilderness areas.  Committee jurisdiction also includes the Geological Survey, Insular possessions of the United States and relations of the United States with Native Americans and Native American tribes.

Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans, and Insular Areas - has jurisdiction over legislation governing the Nation's U.S. Territories and Compacts of Free Association, as well as issues relating to fisheries management, wildlife resources, coastal barrier protection and coastal zone management, and marine sanctuaries among other areas.

Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources - oversees the production of energy and mineral resources located on lands owned or managed by the federal government.  This Subcommittee strives to maintain a healthy balance between providing for energy needs and conserving our nation's precious natural resources.
