NUNNELEE: “Federal government has no business telling companies where they can locate”

(Washington, D.C.) – Today H.R. 2587, the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act, passed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 238 to 186.  The legislation would prohibit the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) from dictating where an employer can and cannot locate jobs in the United States.     

 “The federal government has no business telling companies where they can and cannot locate.  If this can happen to Boeing, then who’s next?  This is just one example of the frustrating regulations coming out of the Obama administration. Employers should be allowed to invest in the state that offers the best economic climate for growth and job creation,” Nunnelee said.   

In April, the National Labor Relations Board filed a complaint against Boeing Corporation for its decision to locate a production facility in South Carolina, a “right-to-work” state.  The NLRB is seeking to force Boeing to transfer the work to a unionized facility in Washington, a decision that may destroy thousands of South Carolina jobs and create further uncertainty amongst job creators across the country.  The NLRB has more than a dozen enforcement tools at its disposal that can be utilized to hold employers accountable for unlawful labor practices.

“House Republicans have outlined a fall agenda focused on removing the job-destroying regulations coming out of Washington, D.C. – and this legislation is the first of many that will help provide job creators with the certainty they need to invest in our economy.   By offering regulatory relief, we will allow businesses to do what they do best: invest, innovate and create jobs,” Nunnelee said.
