Boustany Rips Democrat Proposal to Tax American Energy Producers

Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD (R-Southwest Louisiana), today condemned a Democrat plan to increase the tax burden on American energy producers. Boustany warned increasing tax rates on energy companies will further increase gas prices and hurt American workers and families.

“This plan punishes businesses across the country, and that is unacceptable,” Boustany said. “Small energy producers and service companies in Louisiana will feel the sting of this, not the big oil companies. If President Obama and his Democratic allies get their way, a plan like this puts an added burden on all Americans, who will have to pay even more at the pump. With gas prices hitting $4 a gallon nationwide, this plan would be a disaster.”

Boustany has been a leading voice for American energy production. He has repeatedly called for a restoration of production after the President’s moratorium and de facto moratorium to lower the price of gas and lessen America’s dependence on foreign oil.
