Boustany Fights for Veterans Clinics in South Louisiana

Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD (R-Southwest Louisiana) continues his fight to improve veterans’ access to quality healthcare in Coastal Southwest Louisiana.

“Our veterans deserve proper care for the many sacrifices they made, and ensuring they have the best treatments available is a top priority,” Boustany said.“We owe this to our men and women in uniform, from retirees to those who serve today.  I will continue working closely with veterans groups to ensure their needs are met, and I am confident we are nearing our goal. As a former heart surgeon, I understand the necessity of accessible health care.”

In recent years, Boustany has been in regular communication with Veterans Affairs officials in Louisiana, including Alexandria VA Medical Center Director Gracie Specks, to expand the facility in Lafayette and add a new clinic in Lake Charles.  Boustany has organized meetings with interested parties, sent letters to officials in support of the projects and met with officials to discuss the importance of the clinics.

The proposed expansion of the Lafayette clinic will provide veterans in Southwest Louisiana with services not previously offered at the current facility.  In addition to the new clinic, the Department of Veterans Affairs will extend the lease on the Jennings clinic while maintaining its existing services, and develop a clinic in Lake Charles to improve care for veterans in the area.
