Boustany Excited Sasol One Step Closer Toward Expanding in South Louisiana

(Washington, DC) -  Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) released the following statement after Sasol, a South African energy and chemicals company, announced today it has approved a feasibility study for a world class ethylene cracker and derivatives complex at Sasol’s operating site in Lake Charles, Louisiana:

“This is great news for South Louisiana. Sasol is now one step closer toward investing between $3.5 and 4.5 billion in a complex designed to harvest the natural gas opportunities present along the Gulf Coast. This new complex will not only create jobs in America, but it is expected to produce between 1 and 1.4 million tons of ethylene per year. Incorporating natural gas into our nation’s comprehensive energy policy is part of the ‘all of the above’ approach I fully support.  I am excited Sasol is moving forward to utilize energy opportunities in South Louisiana.”

Congressman Boustany is the leader in Congress for American energy production. He is vigorously pushing for the issuance of new permits on deepwater and shallow water drilling and is known for his calls for America to end its dependence on foreign oil.
