Boustany Denounces President's Decision to Block Keystone XL Pipeline

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-South Louisiana) released the following statement after the Obama Administration rejected the permit allowing the Keystone XL pipeline to bring energy resources and jobs to America:

“The decision to block the Keystone XL pipeline kills thousands of American jobs in the name of politics. Rather than support failed venture socialism projects like Solyndra with taxpayer dollars, the President needs to get serious about forming a sound energy policy for our nation.

“Rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline permit illustrates the Administration’s inability to capitalize on a sound, energy opportunity benefitting our nation. This Administration proves it allows politics to dictate policy.

“The Keystone XL pipeline is a clear and obvious solution to our nation’s growing energy problem. Transporting 1.1 million barrels of oil per day from the oil sands of Alberta, Canada to refineries on the Gulf Coast would have easily created over 20,000 direct jobs in America. This job creation would not add one, single penny to the deficit while injecting millions of dollars into local economies. Best of all, our nation would reduce its dependence on oil from the Middle East and South America. Instead, the Canadians will now send this oil to China.”
