Boustany Continues Strong Support of Gun Owners' Rights

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) released the following statement after recently cosponsoring the Second Amendment Protection Act (H.R. 3594):

“I refuse to support efforts by the United Nations and this Administration to trample over the fundamental rights granted by the Founding Fathers of the United States. I will continue to promote the 2nd Amendment and defend the rights of gun owners.

“I am a very strong proponent of the Second Amendment. My votes in Congress reflect this. The Second Amendment Protection Act stops all funding to the United Nations if the United States government agrees to any treaty violating the 2nd Amendment Constitutional right of American citizens. The Arms Trade Treaty proposed by the United Nations attempts to limit Americans’ constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms. The United Nations should be held accountable for its actions. Forcing Americans to fund an organization infringing upon the freedoms we value most is unacceptable.”

Recent legislation Congressman Boustany supports to promote the Second Amendment and protect the rights of gun owners are:

H.R. 1181 - Protecting Gun Owners in Bankruptcy Act (cosponsor)

H.R. 1443 - Outdoor Sports Protection Act (cosponsor)

H.R. 1865 - Recreational Lands Self-Defense Act of 2011 (cosponsor)

H.R. 2252 - Citizens’ Self-Defense Act (cosponsor)

H.R. 3594 - Second Amendment Protection Act (cosponsor)
