Boustany Congratulates Cheniere Energy Inc. in Latest Development to Create Jobs in South Louisiana

(Washington, DC)  – Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D. (R-South Louisiana), released the following statement after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved a proposal by Sabine Pass Liquefaction, LLC and Sabine Pass LNG, L.P. to site, construct and operate facilities to liquefy domestic natural gas for export to markets worldwide. This is the Commission’s first authorization of a project that would export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from production resources within the United States:

“Cheniere Energy recently received approval to build a $5 billion LNG export facility in South Louisiana. FERC’s announcement means the first LNG export terminal in the entire country will call Louisiana home. This facility will enable companies to liquefy and export up to 2.2 billion cubic feet or 16 million tons per annum of domestically produced natural gas.

“I am proud Sabine Pass’ existing LNG terminal in Cameron Parish was chosen as the site to locate these facilities where tens of thousands of jobs, ranging from multi-year construction jobs to natural gas production jobs, will be created. The expansion represents billions of dollars of investment in our nation’s energy infrastructure. Congratulations to Cheniere and I look forward to hearing more positive news about this site and further energy-related economic development in South Louisiana,” Boustany stated.

Charif Souki, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Cheniere Energy, Inc. added, “Obtaining approval from the FERC is one more milestone for our Liquefaction Project. We are working to finalize financing arrangements and to start construction of the first two LNG trains promptly. We look forward to working with the community in Cameron Parish and supporting economic growth in Louisiana as our project develops.”
