(Washington, DC) - Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-South Louisiana) released the following statement after tonight’s State of the Union address given by President Barack Obama:

“Three years since Mr. Obama took office, America continues to suffer from a high national unemployment rate, an economic downturn made worse by this Administration’s binge spending, and a total disconnect between the American people and this President.

“As usual, the President’s address to Congress tonight was full of hope, promise, and empty rhetoric. His failed $787 billion stimulus plan did not work. The national unemployment rate remains above 8 percent for the 35^th consecutive month. Over 1,000 days have passed since the Democrat-led Senate approved a budget. Approving disastrous energy projects like Solyndra cost taxpayers more than $500 million. Blocking the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline prevents more than 20,000 American jobs from being created.

“Enough with the finger pointing, political slogans, and cheap rhetoric, House Republicans are ready to get American families back to work. With 27 job creating bills awaiting approval by liberals in the Senate, House Republicans are pushing to create an atmosphere where entrepreneurs and small businesses flourish. The time has come for the President to do the same.”
