Boustany Applauds House Farm Bill Committee Passage

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D. (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act (FARRM) successfully passedinthe House Committee on Agriculture and will now head to the House floor:

“I applaud the House Committee on Agriculture for passing such a fiscally responsible and reform-minded Farm Bill. This legislation cuts $35 billion over the next 10 years, $10 billion more than the Senate-passed measure. Additional cuts include $16 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and the consolidation of 23 government programs into 13, resulting in savings of another $6 billion.

“This bill includes a price and revenue based option I supported to cover the diversity of our South Louisiana agricultural community. In addition, the no-cost sugar program is reauthorized for an additional 5 years. Farmers of South Louisiana’s major crops such as sugar, rice, and soybean are winners because of this bill. I look forward to voting in favor of this bill on the House floor.”
