Congressman Jack Kingston - First District of Georgia

Kingston was nominated for the award, one of the association’s highest, by members of the Georgia National Guard Association.

“For his dedicated support of the National Guard and the U.S. Armed Forces, Congressman Jack Kingston exemplifies the qualities of a true patriot,” read the citation accompanying the medal.  “During his tenure as Congressman, his visionary leadership, outstanding skill and unlimited energy created a blueprint for success that will sustain and guide the National Guard well into the 21st Century.  His outspoken support of the military has been his benchmark as an advocate of tradition and loyalty to the constituents he served.”

On hand to present Kingston the award were the Adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard, Major General Jim Butterworth, and Executive Director of the National Guard Association of Georgia, Brigadier General Marshall Kennemer.

In accepting the award, Kingston stressed the importance of the National Guard to the nation.

“The men and women of today’s National Guard represent the same citizen-soldier spirit that was the driving force in our nation’s fight for independence,” said Kingston.  “The sacrifices that today’s Guardsmen make express that same determination to the principles that make us a free nation.  Their willingness to put their lives on hold, often times literally, leave their families and even their livelihoods is incredible.  I am humbled by this honor and pledge to continue my work.”

Representing four major military installations, Kingston has established a reputation as a leader on defense issues and a fierce advocate for soldiers and their families.  He is a senior member of the Defense Appropriations Committee which directs national security spending.
