Education

As a father, and a grandfather, it is very important to me that our children inherit a better country than we did. The most promising investment for a brighter tomorrow is access to education today.  A sound education system is essential if America is to remain competitive with other nations.  We must provide our children with the tools they need to produce cutting edge technology, and innovative ideas for a changing world. 

Education is and will remain one of my top priorities in Congress.  Throughout my years in the House of Representatives I have supported legislation that reduces class sizes and helps families pay for college.  In the last Congress, I voted for the largest investment in student financial aid in 65 years and to make federal loans easier to obtain for Iowa’s students and their families. I will continue to push for tax credits and programs such as the Pell Grant because with such measures we not only lessen the burden of high tuition fees, we increase college enrollment, incentivize advanced degrees, and invest in our own growing economy. 

Our children deserve the very best, that is why I support making improvements to No Child Left Behind (NCLB).  It is evident that this well-intentioned bill is not working in many of our communities, and our children are paying the price.  I am committed to working with my colleagues in the 112^th Congress to make sure our schools have the resources they need to provide our children with talented teachers, bring our children face-to-face with technology, and modernize our institutions.  By making real investments in education we can secure more stable futures for Americans and provide all with the ability to contribute to our rich society.
