I was proud to join with my colleagues this morning in standing up for the Medicaid program. For nearly 50 years, Medicaid has been part of our promise to provide for our most vulnerable and now is no time to turn our back on this commitment. The elderly, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and families with dependent children have all benefited from the access to health care that Medicai... d provides. Reducing our support for Medicaid would have one of two unacceptable results: it could reduce benefits or it could impose new limits on program eligibility. We cannot allow this to happen.
