Jennifer Lawrence is the most desirable famous woman, according to poll

Jennifer Lawrence is the most desirable famous woman on the planet.

That’s the conclusion drawn from AskMen.com’s annual list of the 99 most desirable women, a ranking determined by online voting and, also, soon to be featured in the National Journal of Scientifically-Determined Celebrity Hotness.

According to a press release issued by AskMen.com in an effort to bring our attention to this important list and the 99 — at least — online clicks per person it will generate, more than 2.4 million votes were cast in this year’s survey. And apparently a lot of those people felt that the actress who plays Katniss Everdeen epitomizes what is attractive about the female form in 2012. In as much as it’s possible for a list to signify female empowerment, this seems like progress. Kind of.

The rest of the list? Not entirely about progress.

If you play along and click through the line-up of lovely ladies, you’ll find that the top five looks like this: Mila Kunis (No. 2,) Kate Upton (who is like Katniss Everdeen in so many ways); Rihanna; and Emma Stone. Also in the top 10: two Victoria’s Secret models, Kristen Stewart, Jessica Pare, reinforcing once again the power of “Zou Bisou Bisou”; and Australian hurdler Michelle Jenneke.

In keeping with the Year of the Strong Woman theme, two ”Girls” cast members who aren’t Lena Dunham also made the list, along with first lady Michelle Obama (No. 33, one notch below Beyonce) and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova of the Russian punk-protest band Pussy Riot (No. 85). And in one final example of feminist progress, Kim Kardashian plummeted from her No. 8 position on the 2011 countdown to No. 98 this year.

Now, sing it, Anne Murray!
