“I welcome the President’s action in calling for the resignation of Syrian President Bashar Assad.  The Assad regime has long been engaged in a campaign of violence and gross human rights abuses against its people and clearly lost legitimacy.

“That is why earlier this year I introduced the bipartisan resolution, H.Res. 296. It expresses support for peaceful demonstrations and universal freedoms in Syria and condemns the human rights violations by the Assad Regime. 

“The Assad regime is a proxy for Hezbollah and a strong ally of Iran. For years, Assad has opposed the interests of the United States, including our troops, friends, and allies.  I encourage the President to immediately enforce all current sanctions.”—Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
