U.S. Rep. Karen Bass Introduces Congressional Resolution Recognizing May as National Foster Care Month

Bass: “Our society is judged on how we treat the most vulnerable amongst us. We must provide a hand up to foster youth and celebrate their accomplishments, praise foster families, caregivers, and relatives for their selflessness to others, continue investing in life improving foster care services, and always assist children as they age out of the foster care system.”     

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Karen Bass introduced her first bill in Congress recognizing May as National Foster Care Month, continuing the efforts initiated by the former Assembly Speaker in Sacramento in support of foster care initiatives.

“Our society is judged on how we treat the most vulnerable amongst us,” said U.S. Rep. Karen Bass. “We must provide a hand up to foster youth and celebrate their accomplishments, praise foster families, caregivers, and relatives for their selflessness to others, continue investing in life improving foster care services, and always assist children as they age out of the foster care system.”

The resolution recognizing National Foster Care Month commends the efforts of all individuals working to improve the outcomes of children in the child welfare system, including advocates and role models for foster youth.

Rep. Bass as Assembly Speaker championed the California Fostering Connections to Success Act that extends support foster youth to the age of 21, instead of 18. She also successfully fought for additional funding to support foster care homes and group homes.
