Joining Youngstown State University Students To Call For Bill Preventing Paying Thousands More For Student Loans

Sen. Brown joined students at Youngstown State University to call for passage of his bill that would maintain the current interest rate, which is set at 3.4 percent, and prevent a hike to 6.8 percent scheduled for July 1st.More than 382,000 students across Ohio – including more than 10,000 in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties – would be forced to pay significantly more for their student loans unless Congress passes legislation by July 1.

Visiting Clyde's Whirlpool Factory

In a visit to Whirlpool Corporation in Clyde , Sen. Brown urged the Obama Administration to investigate unfair foreign trade practices and defend Ohio manufacturing jobs. Following a visit to the factory, where he toured the plant and met with workers, Brown released a letter that he is sending to the U.S. Commerce Department asking the agency to enforce trade laws to ensure that companies like Whirlpool are guaranteed a level playing field on which to compete.


Talking About Student Loan Rates At Owens Community College

Sen. Brown joined students from Owens Community College to call for passage of his bill that would maintain the current interest rate, which is set at 3.4 percent, and prevent a hike to 6.8 percent scheduled for July 1st.  More than 382,000 students across Ohio—including 25,000 in Lucas County alone—would be forced to pay significantly more for their student loans unless Congress passes legislation to block the interest rate from doubling on federally-subsidized Stafford loans.

Calling for Passage of Bill Stopping Increase on Student Loan Rates

Sen. Brown Meets Honor Flight Veterans from Northwest Ohio

Sen. Brown met with veterans from Northwest Ohio area traveling to Washington, D.C. as part of the Honor Flight program. Approximately 150 veterans traveled from Northwest Ohio to visit the World War II, Vietnam, and Korean War memorials, Arlington National Ceremony, and the Iwo Jima memorial; the group will then return to Toledo this evening.
