Fortenberry Condemns Release of Terrorist

Lincoln, NE - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry today responded to recent reports that terrorist Ali Musa Daqduq has been released from custody by the Iraqi government and is now in Lebanon. Daqduq was a senior operative of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, a Shiite militia that abducted and executed a team of U.S. soldiers in Karbala, Iraq, on January 20, 2007.

"This is a direct insult to America and an affront to the families of the American soldiers killed," Fortenberry said. "The Iraqi government's decision to release Daqduq signifies an unwillingness to uphold the basic tenets of justice. After all America suffered and sacrificed for the sake of stability in that country, the mildest show of respect would have prevented Daqduq's release. For the sake of our soldiers' families and for our national security, the U.S. must continue to pursue vigorous efforts to keep Daqduq from doing further harm."

Fortenberry is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and its Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia.
