A Taxing Situation

-- Randy’s Roundup --

A Weekly Newsletter from Congressman Randy Neugebauer

November 22, 2010

A Taxing Situation

If you’re keeping count, there are only 39 days until the New Year and the LARGEST tax hike in American history.  After the first week of the Lame Duck session, Speaker Pelosi’s Congress is no closer to preventing these job-killing tax hikes for every taxpayer. Letting the estate tax return to 55 percent, cutting the child tax credit in half and letting several other tax provisions expire at the end of the year is a tax increase our economy cannot handle. What I know and what the American people know is that raising taxes during the worst economy in decades will kill even more jobs and lead to greater uncertainty for small businesses looking to expand.  As December 31st approaches along with this massive $3.9 trillion tax hike, I will continue to fight to make the tax cuts permanent for everyone by promoting my bill, the Taxpayer Certainty Act.  If this November has made anything clear to the Democrats in Congress, it’s that the American people want a trimmed down government that taxes less and significantly reduces spending in Washington.

A Thanksgiving Message

As we gather together over the Thanksgiving holiday, I hope that you will take the time to remember the things you are thankful for and express your gratitude to loved ones.  In today’s ever changing world, families are the strong support system our children rely on to become responsible and productive members of the community. A strong America relies on strong families.

As families and friends come together this week, we should also remember those who are not able to join their loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the men and women in our Armed Forces serving far away from home. We are thankful for the sacrifices both you and your families have made on behalf of our great country and pray for your safe return.

Thanksgiving is also a reminder of the agricultural bounty of this nation. We have been blessed with fertile land and dedicated farmers and producers who bring forth a great harvest each year. It is important to remember those who have brought the food we will enjoy this week to our tables.

It is my sincere honor to represent the people of the 19th District in Congress. I am thankful for this opportunity and pledge to you to continue diligently serving you. May God continue to bless our country and our families this Thanksgiving season.

Important Dates for Military Families

With Christmas fast approaching, the mail rush is already beginning. For those military families considering sending a package to their loved ones overseas, there are several important postal dates you should remember.

For those who have family members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, holiday packages and mail should be sent no later than December 4th. If a member of your family is serving in another part of the world, holiday mail should be shipped no later than December 18th. For more information on military mail, please visit the USPS website.

Staff Mobile Office Hours Next Week

Next week, members of my staff will be hosting the last mobile office hours of the year to visit with constituents in West Texas and the Big Country. During mobile office hours the 19th District staff will gladly offer assistance with problems regarding federal issues or agencies.  If you are experiencing problems with a federal government agency or want to share your opinion on issues in Congress, I invite you to come and visit with a member of my staff while they are visiting a location near you. For more information on the dates and locations of the mobile office hours, please click here.

In the event you are unable to attend one of these upcoming mobile office hours, I encourage you to contact my office any time, toll free, at (888) 763-1611 or visit my website to contact me via email.
