Homeland Security Committee to Examine Oil Spill Damage in New Orleans
June 18, 2010 (WASHINGTON) – On Monday, June 21st, in preparation for a Full Committee Hearing, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, will lead a Committee delegation to the Gulf Coast Region to examine the homeland security and response issues associated with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The visit will include a flyover of the affected areas, briefings with government, Coast Guard, and BP leaders, as well as a press conference.
Upon landing from the flyover and in advance of the Command Center briefing, Members will hold a press conference to discuss what they’ve seen during the flight and what they hope to address at the afternoon briefing.
